Standing Committees

Education Committee
Co-Chairs Norma Hernandez and Gonzalo Rojas
The education committee provides the Forum with updates regarding the current affairs of the National City, Chula Vista, Sweetwater, South Bay, and San
Ysidro School Districts and the San Diego County Office of Education. In addition, it recommends advocacy positions on matters ranging from equal
opportunity hiring in districts and county to school performance and bilingual education. The committee also works on higher education policy issues and
campus committees. The South Bay Forum, through its Education Committee, is a sponsoring organization and contributor to the annual Latino Education
Summit co-hosted by the San Diego County Office of Education and the San Diego County Latino Coalition for Education.

Elections Committee
Chair Norma Cazares
The Elections is responsible for candidate recruitment, development, voter outreach campaigns and endorsements. The committee in consultation with the
SBF cabinet prepares candidate and issue endorsements slates and media for the membership. Endorsements are made at South Bay Forum General
Meetings or special meetings called by the cabinet.  The committee is also responsible for candidate debates and issues forums. The committee chair
represents the South Bay Forum in all communications with candidates and issue advocates wishing to address the Forum or seeking to participate in our
public debates. The committee develops the candidate and issues forums questions, identifies topics for debate related to our organization’s mission and
carries out all other logistics for the production of the debates/forums.  The committee chair in conjunction with the South Bay Forum cabinet establishes
partnerships with other South San Diego County organizations to sponsor issue or candidate forums.

Membership Committee
Chair Bea Fernandez
The Membership Committee maintains member communications and may develop a website, newsletters, and other media as needed by the Forum. The
committee is responsible for membership recruitment and supports the biannual SBF Tardeadas.

Public Policy Committee
Chair Alejandra Sotelo-Solis
The Public Policy Committee is the most fluid of the committees since the matters it may deal with will depend on the current affairs of our region. The South
Bay Forum President is a permanent member of this committee and may serve as its chair. All members of this committee may represent the Forum at public
hearings, serve on committees on behalf of the Forum, except education committees, and conduct other functions as needed. The Policy Committee has
three standing subcommittees: Urban Planning and Environmental Justice, Health-care Equity, and Governmental Affairs.
